Nissan - 2009 New Car and Truck Line-Up

In a year that has already been difficult for most of the automotive industry, Nissan has introduced multiple new and redesigned models in its 2009 line up and have not let the economic conditions stand in their way. Of particular note is the new boxy Nissan Cube that comes to North America for the first time and the Nissan GT-R supercar. Nissan has also made improvements in both its safety and reliability records of its 2009 vehicles.

Let us review the new Nissan vehicles first. Nissan has brought the Cube to the US market in 2009. The Cube used to only be available in the Japanese market. The Cube comes with a 122 horsepower 1.8 liter engine. The boxy Nissan cube has a very unusual rear window. It is asymmetric and wraps around the right side of the car. Nissan also introduced a supercar for the 2009 model year. The GT-R has a 480 horsepower V6 engine. Nissan claims the vehicle accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds.

The Nissan Maxima and Murano are also all new for 2009. The Maxima is smaller than the 2008 model that it replaces. The new vehicle comes with a 290 horsepower 3.5 liter V6 engine. The Murano is has a very similar shape to the vehicle it replaces, but the front and rear styling details are quite different from the old model. Finally, the Nissan Frontier and Xterra received new front designs in the 2009 models.

In terms of reliability, Nissan recently came in sixth place as an overall manufacturer in Consumer Reports' study on reliability. Nissan achieved this by improving reliability of the Armada SUV, the Titan, and the Infiniti QX56 SUV. The vehicles gained above average ratings in this years study for the first time. The new Rogue and Infiniti EX also achieved an above average rating in their first appearance in the Consumer Reports' study. The results show that Nissan is committed to improving its reliability performance of its new models.

Nissan also made improvement, as did all manufacturers, in the safety of its 2009 vehicle line up. The performance of the 2009 Nissan Murano and the Nissan Rouge in the latest National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's test shows that Nissan is doing something right for the safety of its redesigned vehicles. Both Nissan models achieved a good rating, the highest rating available in front, side, and rear impact safety tests. Both vehicles also have electronic stability control as standard. The vehicles made the Top Safety Pick list of the agency for these performances.

In summary, Nissan has introduced the Cube and the GT-R for 2009. Nissan has also updated other sections of its line up, including the Nissan Maxima and the Murano. The most impressive achievement for Nissan was that its 2009 fleet helped the manufacturer to improve its Consumer Reports' overall manufacturer rating to sixth place in this year's study. Finally, Nissan is also making improvements in terms of safety. Two of its 2009 vehicles make the Top Safety Pick list.
